Planning for Dental Implant Surgery

Dental Implants and Dental Implant Placement

We offer dental implant surgery so that patients from Indio, Coachella, and San Francisco, California can replace missing teeth with a long-lasting solution that provides unmatched dental health and beauty. The process to place dental implants typically consists of three steps performed over time: initial placement, osseointegration, and affixing the replacement teeth. The length of treatment varies depending on the particulars of each individual case, but typically the entire process takes between five months and two years to complete.

In order to place an implant in the patient's jaw, we need to assess several criteria at the location of the planned implant.  Some of the important factors may include:

1.  The patient's bone height

2.  The patient's bone width

3.  The proximity to the nerves in the lower jaw

4.  The proximity of the sinus cavity in the upper jaw

Implant Placemente (surgery day)

At your next scheduled appointment, Dr Maryol Ballesteros will place the dental implant in your jawbone where your tooth is missing. Although each patient’s experience is unique, most people find they experience less pain and discomfort than they expect, and typically return to work the next day.

Local anesthesia or IV sedation can be used to keep you comfortable, depending on the procedure. Post-implant surgery discomfort is similar to that of any other dental surgery. It may include swelling, bruising, minor bleeding and/or pain, but most patients usually manage any pain with over-the-counter medications.

We perform all stages of dental implant surgery at our clinic so patients from San Francisco, Indio, Palm Springs, California, and other areas don't have to suffer the inconvenience of shuttling from one location to another for treatment.

Osseointegration

As you heal, your implant and jawbone will grow together in a process called osseointegration (os-e-o-in-tuh-GRAY-shun), forming a strong, long-lasting foundation for your replacement teeth, the duration required for osseointegration can vary widely depending on the number of implants placed and your general health, but it generally lasts from three to twelve months. Once this healing phase is completed, Dr. Ballesteros will uncover your implants, attach a small connector or post to the now firmly anchored implants, place a temporary crown, and begin to fabricate artificial replacement teeth custom designed to match your smile.. During this healing process, you go on with your normal life. You will be on a soft food diet for the first few weeks to make sure your implants heal properly.

Placement of Artificial Teeth

Once your new replacement teeth are prepared, you will return to the office, where Dr. Ballesteros will attach your new teeth to your implants as the final stage of your dental implant surgery. The artificial teeth will be carefully shaped and adjusted to match your natural teeth. When the procedure is complete, you will leave our office with a full, beautiful smile, and your replacement teeth will look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

We perform all stages of dental implant surgery at our clinic so patients from Indio, San Francisco, Palm Springs, California, and other areas don't have to suffer the inconvenience of shuttling from one location to another for treatment.
