Root Canal Therapy
a.k.a. Endodontic
Why is root canal treatment needed?
If the pulp turns into infected, the infection may spread through the tooth's root canal system. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment (RCT) is not carried out, the infection will spread, and the tooth may need to be taken out.
What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a badly decayed tooth or become infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected, and abscesses may form.
"Root canal" is the term used to describe the natural cavity within the tooth's center. The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area within the root canal. The tooth's nerve lies within the root canal.

What will my tooth look like after the treatment?
Once your root canal treatment is finished, Dr. Ballesteros will place either a fiberglass post to strengthen your tooth structure or restore it like a normal white filling. In some cases, when the damage is too large, a crown will be necessary.
